Green Wall Installation: Frame and Water Before Plants

A good installation team does not begin by covering the wall with foliage. It measures the backing, reads the sun direction, finds the water supply and outlet, and plans future access. The technical sequence is backing, frame, water, system test, and plants last. Reversing that order can create a wall that looks finished on day one but remains difficult to repair.

Testing water while the frame is open keeps joints, zones and the collection tray visible before planting closes the wall.

Installation Begins with the Backing Wall

Start by identifying concrete, brick, drywall, or cladding. Each material carries load and handles moisture differently. On an apartment balcony, the team must also inspect floor edges, the drain, and electrical outlets near the planting.

Waterproofing belongs before the plants. The goal is not to coat everything without a plan, but to isolate irrigation from the backing and direct excess water into a collection tray.

The Frame Needs a Defined Load

The frame carries plants, growing medium, water, and the force applied during maintenance. On a tall wall, it also determines anchor positions and technician access. A frame that cannot be opened becomes a burden when plants in the middle need replacement.

Use clear anchor points, corrosion-resistant material, and a depth that suits circulation. In a narrow corridor, a few extra centimeters bring people closer to the foliage.

Test Irrigation Before Planting

Run the irrigation system before adding plants. Watch water move through every line, inspect the emitters, tray, and outlet, and test for a full operating cycle. A one-minute check only confirms that water appears; it does not show whether the tray will overflow during normal operation.

Plants hide the system. Testing first keeps the cause visible while it is still simple to correct.

Handover, Care, and What It Costs

A complete system includes operating instructions. The owner needs to know where the timer and outlet are, when to call a technician, how low light appears in the foliage, and how to notice damp odor at the tray.

Price should be stated at handover too, not left open. For an apartment balcony inside the package frame the price is listed: Standard 2m² at 12,500,000đ, Verdant 4m² at 28,500,000đ, Evergreen 4m² at 43,500,000đ. Outside that frame it is priced per square metre — Basic at 5,450,000đ/m², Tropical at 6,450,000đ/m², both including automatic irrigation. Height, waterproofing and access are the three things that move cost on jobs outside the frame; we quote those separately and say where the difference comes from.

The Commissioning Order Cannot Be Reversed

Tường Cây SG sets two checkpoints before the system is closed up: test the waterproofing, and run each irrigation zone while the pipework, joints and tray are still visible. The Field practice adds that leaks often appear precisely at the junction between waterproofed wall and drip tray, even where each element looks sound on its own. This is the step most often skipped, because by then the job looks nearly finished.

Commissioning Before Planting Closes the Wall

Backing wall Confirm material, fixing points and moisture separation.
Frame Fix it securely while keeping module access for repair.
Irrigation zones Run each zone while pipes and joints are still visible.
Collection tray Check volume, slope and outlet before foliage covers it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does green wall installation take?

It depends on area, height, and the backing wall. A small wall may move faster, but it still needs a full water test.

Can I install a green wall myself?

A small arrangement of hanging pots can be a DIY project. A wall with irrigation and a collection tray should be handled by a technical team.

Which step is most often skipped?

The full water test. It quietly determines whether the wall develops dry zones, standing water, or odor after handover.

What We’ve Already Worked Out

The worry: worrying that the installer will move fast, close everything up, and leave a fault to surface months later.

What we fixed in advance: a fixed sequence on every job inside the package frame: backing, frame, water, system test, then plants. Running each zone before closing is mandatory, not optional.

Which package covers it: all three decor packages — Standard 2m² 12,500,000đ, Verdant 4m² 28,500,000đ, Evergreen 4m² 43,500,000đ, each with automatic irrigation and a stainless steel collection tray.

What still needs a look: a weak backing, a high-level position, or difficult access takes the job outside the package frame. We quote those separately and say where the difference comes from.
